9:21 pm - ahem
|
It occurred to me today that this thing still exists, and it also occurred to me that I have yet to pass the 1,000 posts mark, even after 7 years.
I think what's most remarkable is that I have had an account for 7 years. I remember when this was a major part of my life, and when I would think, I wonder how long this will last? Seems it's still going. No reason to expect any differently.
Also, I've been rereading some of my first entries. 17 was such a strange age for me, but it's amusing to relive some of the daily stresses and concerns that occupied my time. In reading them now, it all seems so childish and unimportant, but 7 years from now, most (if not all) of my current concerns will seem equally childish. Maybe not, but I wonder, among other things, who will have died, who will have been born, who will have come and gone in my life, what loves I will have gained and squandered, what wisdom I will have acquired. 7 year intervals are not the traditional measuring stick for a life's progress, but for my purposes, I think it will suit me fine.

3:47 pm - I'm alive

Got back from France a week ago. My friends insisted that I bring them codeine (OTC in France) for presents so I did. I got searched in customs and the agent must have assumed I was a junkie, although I charmed him out of confiscating anything, including the absinthe I had brought back. He fed me a lie so I could get away with it. I think he was sweet for me (as they say).
I look more Mexican than I did two years ago.
Someone thought I was Japanese.
Recent (past 8 months) events:
- All-male strip club visit for friend's birthday
- Too many drag shows to number (spectating only)
- Friends gained and lost
There's been reading and writing mixed in there as well. Tennis too. I have been driven to distraction and done likewise to others. I am not-quite-fallen-in-love and have induced others to feel the same.
Looking for new hobbies. This bitch is getting old.

Usage Note: Irregardless, is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone, and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

Headline I read today:
Horses lead humans in stem cells race
Damn those brilliant horses and their scientists!
